LifeFirst is a Tobacco Treatment Programme that has been created to catalyse, build capacity and establish a high-quality, proven tobacco treatment service for individuals.
267 million adults in the country consume tobacco in some form. More than half of the tobacco users want to quit their habit but do not have access to cessation services or programs to support them in their attempts.
Considering the challenges involved in the process of quitting tobacco, Salaam Bombay Foundation launched a cessation service "LifeFirst", in 2012 in collaboration with Narotam Sekhsaria Foundation.
Secondary Schools
(Municipal as well as private)
Tobacco use causes numerous health risks that affect a child’s well-being, even before reaching adulthood. The early exposure and addiction to nicotine specially during adolescence, can have a negative impact on brain development.
In addition to this, most of the adolescents also consume Areca nut (“supari”), which is easily available to them.
LifeFirst Program offers counselling services for adolescents who consume tobacco or areca nut to help them quit their habit at secondary schools.
