Voices Against Tobacco
In May 2004, Radio channel GO 92.5 fm partenered with Salaam Bombay Foundation and launched a city-wide initiative called VOICES AGAINST TOBACCO.
The citizens of Mumbai were given facts on the tobacco problem, and an opportunity to interact with tobacco control experts to address various issues around tobacco use. The radio channel carried out a anti-tobacco slogan contest that had an overwhelming response from college youth.
Messages from prominent citizens and celebrities like Juhi Chawla, Jass Arora, Manish Malhotra, Dineo Morea, Malaika Arora, Tushar Kapoor, Raima Sen, Rinkie Khanna, Himanshu Malik, Bittu Sehgal, Harsh Goenka, Tarla Dalal, Satish Sahwney, Anil Deshmukh and many more were aired on the radio.
The Voices Against Tobacco campaign reached a crescendo on World No Tobacco Day, with a special message display through a new age Art Projection technology on the façade of the Air India building. Messages for awareness on tobacco, statistics and slogans of the Voices Against Tobacco contest were displayed on the building. The Air India building is a bold symbol of the spirit of Mumbai and an integral part of Mumbai's skyline. It has been the city's pride for 33 years and withstood the terrible shock of the 1993 bomb blasts. Once again it occupied center stage and proudly proclaimed to Mumbaikars to Say NO to Tobacco.
World No Tobacco Day At Raj Bhavan

Salaam Bombay Foundation was invited to conduct a Tobacco Awareness Programme at the Darbar Hall, Raj Bhavan on May 31, 2004 to mark the occasion of World No Tobacco Day. His Excellency Shri Mohammed Fazal, Governor of Maharashtra inaugurated and presided over the event. This event was held for the staff of Raj Bhavan as a gesture of support from His Excellency, the Governor to create tobacco awareness among the people of Mumbai. Speaking on the occasion, His Excellency, the Governor, stressed on the importance of creating awareness on this dreaded addiction. He felt that very strong action must be taken to curb its use.
World No Tobacco Celebrated with children from NGO's - 2005
On the event of WORLD NO TOBACCO DAY, May 31, 2005 an army of 735 children from various NGO's fought their war against tobacco at the Damodar Hall, Parel. The war used weapons like pencils, colours, drama and songs. Awareness on the ill-effects of tobacco was created among the children during the sessions conducted in their organizations. The children then came up with different ways to express their understanding on the problem.
Super Army Children celebrate World No Tobacco Day in the Communities– 2006
The Super Army children decided to create awareness on World No Tobacco Day in various communities using street plays, songs and an exhibition. Salaam Bombay Foundation tied up with Bal Prafulta, REAP, Sahyog and Life Trust to create awareness in the communities they were associated with. The Super Army thus reached out to people at Shivshai Shantiniketan – Dindoshi, Jari Mari – Kurla, Vashi Goan – Vashi, Janshakti Nagar – Andheri (E), Jhoola Maidan – Jogeshwari (E), Korba Mitha Nagar – Wadala (E) and Nadkarni Park.
Super Army announces WAR – Using Music, Art and Drama to fight Tobacco.
2005


The 2,023 Super Army soldiers are not soldiers who like to sit idle, they want to do something always. They want the people around them to also understand the menace of tobacco and take a stand like they have. So on January 5, 2005 the Y. B. Chavan auditorium witnessed the soldiers putting their thoughts on tobacco in front of an audience of 900 children. The children enacted plays, sung songs and put up huge walls of art to express their concerns on tobacco.
2006
The next batch of 10,000 soldiers also did their bit in taking the Super Army forward. The event was organized at Nehru Centre on Feburary 20, 2006. Prior to the final art event the children were trained by an art teacher from Camlin. Similarly Cyrus Dastoor gave his inputs to the children for drama and Rohini and Sadhna for song. Mr Satish Sahaney, Ms Sanjeevani Bhilande, Mr Raghav Sachar, Mr Rajesh Puri, Ms. Brinda Chudasama and Jaymini Pathak judged the event. 900 children from the 23 schools were present at the event.
Little Masters Challenge – Cricket with a cause – Nov 14, 2005

Salaam Bombay Foundation and Goodlass Nerolac Paints Limited (GNPL), joined hands to organise the biggest ever Children's day event in Mumbai for thousands of under privileged children, by treating them to the luxury of taking part in a unique Cricket Tournament organised exclusively for them on Children's Day. This triangular series called the “Little Master Challenge 2005”, was the first of its kind event, where these underprivileged children had the opportunity to play their favourite game. The match was played on November 14th, 2005 at the Brabourne Stadium.

An added bonus for these children was getting the opportunity to interact with their favourite cricket star Kapil Dev, while training for this tournament. They were also given an insight into the finer aspects of the game by renowned coach Mr. Ashok Mankad. The entire event was organised under the guidance of Mr Raj Singh Dungarpur under the aegis of the Cricket Club of India.
The three teams participating in the tournament were Colaba Muncipal School , Ambedkar Muncipal School and Dongri Muncipal School . Actor Shreyas Talpade of ‘Iqbal' fame was present to cheer the players. The children were provided with an opportunity to fulfil their dreams and forget their dreary existence for a day.
Yaroon Concert - 2006
Abhijeet Sawant and the other 10 finalist of the Indian Idols joined hands in their stand against tobacco. Salaam Bombay Foundation was invited to be a part of the ‘Yaroon Concert' of Sony Entertainment Television where Abhijeet Sawant gave messages to the youth to guard the next generation from tobacco. Also, in keeping with their commitment for the anti-tobacco campaign, the Yaaron concert was a completely non-smoking event. The 11 Indian Idols spoke out on the cause at the concert, ‘Yaaron Concert', where they came together to launch their new Album ‘Yaaron'. The concert was held in Delhi and was telecasted on June 19, at 8 pm on Sony Entertainment Television.
Smiling Flower Wall of Fame
On January 27, 2003 , the Gutkha-Free State Wall of Fame, a display of postcards signed by celebrities was launched with the Government of Maharashtra at Tendulkar's Restaurant, Colaba. It was launched the Indian cricketer, Rahul Dravid. The Wall of Fame showcased a host of postcards signed by some of the country's most illustrious names. It has subsequently traveled to other renowned restaurants of the city and has received much attention.
Smiling Flower Awards Ceremony
This event was held on 15 July, 2003 at the Nehru Centre and had two purposes. To create awareness on tobacco and to felicitate those schools and children who have been actively involved with the Smiling Flower campaign. The audience included 800 students representing 110 schools and more than 100 educationists, School Principals and teachers.
Awards for the best postcard designs created by schools and the highest number of signatures collected by a single institution were distributed to reiterate the message and to encourage further support and commitment to the cause. Shri Anil Deshmukh, Minister FDA & Excise was the Chief Guest for the function.
